benefits to use zfs with disk mirror
-
I am currently on 22.01 Plus (upgraded) on a whitebox still on UFS. I am looking to reimage and move over to zfs and then take advantage of dual disk mirror.
What are the most benefits here? Or does it cause more issues than its worth?
Thank you!

@iptvcld Check out the video in the ZFS section of this blog post. It's 30 minutes but quite cool, I think.
Even without Plus, or multiple drives, ZFS is supposed to be more resilient. (ZFS doesn't require multiple drives)
Since there isn't a generic installer for Plus my understanding is you'll need to install CE and upgrade again. I'd still have a backup but you can have it read the existing configuration file during install.
Netgate has ZFS install instructions but they aren't findable by searching "ZFS" in the doc site last I checked.
They haven't listed a configuration file version for 22.05 yet so for any future thread readers, double check you can install CE and read the config file for what you have.

@steveits Thank you; so yes that is I what I heard as well. I will need to wipe - install CE 2.6.0 and then upgrade again to 22.1 Plus.
Just thinking since I am going through the reimage; do I go ahead and add a 2nd drive and will it cause more issues then what it is worth? As in slowness, mirror issue with data sync, etc..

@iptvcld How accessible is the router? If you can easily replace the drive and reinstall, and the downtime isn't a problem, I wouldn't worry about it. If that amount of downtime is a problem, or the router is remote to you, or you don't keep current installation images on hand, then the second disk would help with disk failure downtime. I doubt you'd notice any slower I/O. Just my thoughts.

@steveits its is a home router right in the basement so downtime to me is not that big of an issue. If there is better performance then for sure I am all game for that..

No. At least not in my experience. I have several setup like that and have never seen any issues. If anything I expect it to be faster.
