dns resolver vs forwarder and hostname-ip resolution for dhcp clients for veyon
-
Hi
I have a pfsense doing dhcp server and captive portal for a 20.x wired network and .30.x wireless network, with dns in forwarding mode and a zentyal server doing dns server and AD.At a school, I want to use veyon so a teacher can check and demo on 13 clients from a master computer and
what I want to accomplish is to be able to get the master to find the client computers using the hostname as opposed to the ip address of the client computers, therefore I need the host to be able to resolve hostnames into ip address so veyon can work.I thought that if On pfense > services> dns forwarder : I enabled Register DHCP leases on DNS fowarder", thebn save and restarted service, that I would allow clients (including the veyon master computer on the wired network) to register the leases in dns server (zentyal) and that way I would get hostname-ip resolution but that doesn't seem to do the trick.
I read that I need to do host override options and host mapping but as per my confused understanding that imply giving and fixing an ip address to a host which I wanted to avoid as my 13 client computers are dhcp clients, and if that ip lease changes that might ruin communication between veyon master and clients
I'm a newbie at this so I struggle with some concepts so please bare with me.. my configuration can be checked here if it helps:
