Dynamic DNS update failing every couple of days
-
Hi,
So I have been running pfsense for a while. Over time I have started self hosting a couple of apps out of my home lab and for those I also registered some domains. pfsense's dynamic DNS update client used to work very reliably for me but not anymore.
Since a few weeks, every now and then, it misses a beat and fails to update the DNS servers. Apparently, it is aware of its failure, because it presents the outdated IP address in red (instead of green for a current IP address).
I am now wondering where the issue might come from. I have added a second DSL line recently that I have combined with my primary line to a gateway group. Before that, the gateway to watch used to be my primary DSL line. Since then, I have changed the gateway to watch to the gateway group. It is only after that change that I started to notice failures to update the IP address (from time to time).
The gateway group is organized in two tiers: My primary line being tier 1 and the secondary line being tier 2. I have not seen a failure of my primary line yet (which would make pfsense switch to tier 2).
I don't know whether the (change to the) gateway group is the culprit, but the timing seems to coincide.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Is there a known bug maybe? How can I debug this?
Thanks!

By setting :
and now the resulting logs will be more verbose.
Normally, when you set up a dyndns entry, you have to select an interface :
so, when pfsense tests this interface for the 'real' WAN' ip, it uses
You can 'see' it doing so in the logs.
The thing is, I'm a 'solo WAN guy' so I don't know what it is to have more then one WAN.
As you have to select a WAN type interface in the dyndns settings, it should use the right one to use.
But when you group them up : what happens ??
