How to know if MaxMind is working NTOPNG
-
How does one know if NTOPNG is working with a GeoLite2 DB License Key.
I created three different types of MaxMind keys and tried it... how do I know it worked?
Thanks in advance!
Paul.Quick Follow-up - does the NTOPNG package also install the geoip bits?

@paulparisi I have the same question. I tried installing a license key from Maxmind in the ntopng settings page, but "it doesn't work." This information comes from a popup in the ntopng web gui.
The instructions in this popup tell us to follow the instructions at https://github.com/ntop/ntopng/blob/dev/doc/README.geolocation.md but these instructions do not work. Particularly, they say to obtain a license key from Maxmind - I already have one for pfBlockerNG that works ok, but here the instructions say we need to determine what version of geoipdate is running under ntopng, and possibly install a config file that goes with the key. At this point it's assumed the administrator is using a command line, but, ok. Well it's worse than that, ntopng in pfsense+ does not install geoipupdate, in fact, this package (ntopng-data) does not exist.
BTW, instead, pfsense+ has a kind of simplistic shell script in /usr/local/bin/ntopng-geoip2update.sh I don't see how this script accesses any maxmind keys.
I wonder how to fix this.

@stephencnorth Also, shouldn't pfBlockerNG and ntopng be able to find and share the same GeoIP database?

@stephencnorth the question I asked seems like it could have been answered in seconds by someone with just a little bit more knowledge. I have not been able to figure it out.
Hopefully someone will see the new activity and throw us a bone.
Thanks,
Paul. -
@paulparisi my friend who runs pfsense assured me that you simply paste the maxmind password (looks like about 20 alphanumerics) and the GeoLite2 database loads though it may take a little while to complete. I tried it and it seems to work.
