Previously using the 7100s with great success, we have been using the 6100s as a replacement.

However, with the introduction of the 8200 and 1537, I and trying to work out which would be better for larger hotels 300-500 rooms say.

In some areas, the 8200 seems to outperform the 1537, in some areas its the opposite.

I would have thought the 1537 specs would smash the 8200, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

What are peoples thoughts with these models?

I think the actual 1RU style of the 1537 is preferable to the 8200 chassis with a rack mount kit, but other than that it seems the 8200 is very capable and not to be overlooked as a less "enterprise" unit based on its form factor seeming more "desktop".

Any tips appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

In addition, guests are only now seeming to stream and cast, rather than use the tv systems provided by the hotels.

We are seeing a lot more throughput now, but nothing like other countries like America.

But there is often a lot of scope creep where they want a simple network, and then they add on cameras, iptv, admin networks, public networks, zigbee, etc...

So its important that i don't run out of routing and switching hence why I'm trying to read up about the new models.

But it seems from the feedback that the 8200 is very capable, even though it looks like a desktop style router.

Not needing VPN, ipsec, or any b2b configurations, we don't really need the expandability of the 1537 for now, so i think the 8200 seems like the smart choice

In that case either of those units would be more than sufficient. Both are significantly more powerful than the 7100. The 1537 is quite a bit faster than the 8200. The only exception to that might be a VPN using QAT where that hardware is built into the 8200 and the 1537 would require the QAT expansion card. What numbers are you looking at?

But it's always a lot less than I plan for.

On the 7100's we see memory usage around 5-10%, CPU around 20%, throughput (internet) 100-150mbps at peak times.

Packets, average 7.42kpps inpass, 15.46kpps outpass.
