Before I even posted this I did update to 25.11 and so far it looks OK.

It had some issues pulling latest files initially but all seemed good after refresh.

@chudak Was going to last night, but I had to postpone.
Was planning to do it now, but I think I would like some more successstorires with pfBlockerNG before it hit the upgrade button.
Seems there may be issues with upgrading with that package installed. Dunno if it really needs to be removed before upgrading?

Love the no fuss of using the official appliances :-)

Hypothetically no, but I always do for that and Suricata (leaving others like Patches and VPN exports). The one time I know it can bite you is if you're doing it remotely and you are allowed by a pfB alias, you'll un-allow yourself. Allow your current IP. And then after reinstalling run a force update to recreate the aliases.

                FYI: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/199544/updated-to-pfsense-25.11-now-pfblocker-shows-no-cron-job

Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, CPU, and/or disk speed.

@SteveITS Yeah, that’s one of the threads that spooked me a bit and made me request some more succestories with pfBlockerNG before I hit the upgrade buttom.

I've upgraded a bunch of things without removing any packages. The only pfBlocker related thing I've seen is an unpopulated alias error at first boot. But I only had to clear it.

For example I just upgraded this 2100 from 25.07.1 with all these in place:

                    2100_services.png

But it's still safest to remove them if in doubt.

Overall a smooth upgrade (took less than 5 minutes to complete on a Xeon D-1718T based system) and things feel a bit snappier (faster boot up time and the dashboard seems a bit more responsive also).

                      Ran into a couple issues:

                      1. Nut UPS monitor was not running after reboot. Restarting the service did not resolve it. Rebooted system again and everything was working fine the second time around.
                      2. pfBlockerNG-devel - ran into issues with both the widget displaying incorrect statistics (aliases overall look fine though) and the cron job missing as well. Both have already been raised in these threads:

After using 25.11 more I did see one issue.
Acme package was not for some reason kept installed by upgrade and I had to reinstall it.

I’ve been running after updating for a day and rebooted several times

I did see similar with wireguard on previous upgrades

                                  How does upgrade handle packages!

Same as an other pkg. You should see as pfSense-pkg-xxx them in the list of pkgs to upgrade like:

Was it still listed as an installed package in pfSense?
