I purchased a Netgate 7100u in 2019, and it has been working great ever since.

When upgraded to 25.07.1 i had an issue with Session Timeout, in that it started closing the gui after a few hours, no matter what the settings for session timeout was set to. no big deal, i figured i would wait until the next update and that would fix it - it did not.

Then when updated to 25.11 snort service refuses to start. I searched for bug reports, tried every suggestion i found, and ended up deinstalling/reinstalling without saving the configuration, figuring that would reset whatever was wrong - it did not.

so i cant get snort to work, nor can i extend the session timeout past a few hours.

a few years ago i was forced to reinstall from scratch because an update didnt work correctly, but otherwise i just update one version after another - the last original install was 23.05

What to do? is my configuration screwed up? and if so how to fix? if i do a total reinstall and upload the configuration wont that just duplicate the problem? i dont want to reconstruct everything from scratch since i have a lot of stuff configured (20+ vlans, lots of fixed ip addresses, rule sets etc)

for now everything works great except those two things. Memory is at 8% (of 24gb) and CPU usage is typically 25% or thereabouts.

for the sake of completeness and in case there may be a known issue im not aware of, the following are the installed packages:
      acme
      arpwatch
      Avahi
      darkstat
      Nexus
      nmap
      nut
      Service_Watchdog
      Status_Traffic_Totals
      System_Patches
      zeek

      any suggestions are appreciated.

@markgca You should post in the IDS/IPS section with sufficient details if you're looking for assistance with troubleshooting Snort.

And the webConfigurator logout is more likely a browser issue. But again, you'd need to provide more details for anyone to competently assist.
