SFP Cat6 insert not recognized (I think)

Re: Advice on SFP+ modules for 6100
This is an SFP 10 Gbps insert bought from Netgate. ifconfig says no carrier but switch it is connected to shows loop lights. It's a DHCP port and there's a known working DHCP on the segment. I have diabled IPv6 since there's no v6 DHCP service.
I expected that bouncing the port would cause it to request an address, etc. and show as functional in the pfsense GUI.
No dice. What am i missing?

Looks like this:
ix0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500
description: i3_fiber_2Gbps
options=4e138bb<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,JUMBO_MTU,VLAN_HWCSUM,WOL_UCAST,WOL_MCAST,WOL_MAGIC,VLAN_HWFILTER,RXCSUM_IPV6,TXCSUM_IPV6,HWSTATS,MEXTPG>

media: Ethernet autoselect
status: no carrier
nd6 options=21<PERFORMNUD,AUTO_LINKLOCAL> -
OS sees the SFP insert, just doesn't set it up apparently

@fmc-ieee-org said in SFP Cat6 insert not recognized (I think):
lane 1: RX power: 0.00 mW (-inf dBm) TX bias: 6.00 mA
Looks like it's not seeing any input signal on the fiber.
-
@stephenw10 It's a wired ethernet SFP.
-
Hmm, then it's not correctly recognising the module. What is it connected to? I would only expect that to possibly work at 10G.
-
@stephenw10 It should rate negotiate anywhere from 1Gbps to 10Gbps according to the literature.
-
The manual for the module? It won't do that in a 6100 because the lines to read/set the link rate don't exist in C3K SoCs.
-
@stephenw10 So how can they be added to enable rate negotiation?
-
It cannot on those CPUs. It's a limitation of the SoC as noted by Intel:
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/netgate-6100/io-ports.html#sfp-ethernet-portsIf the module defaults to the required rate it can work which is why some module do even though we don't officially support it.
I assume you're trying to have it link at 1G and it's failing to link at 10G?
