Hello fellow Netgate Dev Team members,

pci0: failed to allocate bus number
      device_attach: pci0 attach returned 6

Can anyone please confirm if the pci0 can attach devices with the latest snap shot? wifi ?? it wasnt working for me with the last update I am stuck until this is resolved...

I wanted to bring some visibility to an ongoing regression affecting the Netgate 2100 after upgrading to pfSense Plus 25.11. This is being tracked in Redmine as Bug #16080 but I think it still could be an issue here too..

After upgrading, the Marvell Armada 3700 PCIe bus controller (pcib0) fails to attach entirely, meaning anything connected to the PCIe bus is completely non-functional. The relevant boot output is:

      pcib0: <Marvell Armada 3700 PCIe Bus Controller> mem 0xd0070000-0xd008ffff irq 5 on simplebus0
      pcib0: link up
      pci0: <OFW PCI bus> on pcib0
pci0: failed to allocate bus number
      device_attach: pci0 attach returned 6

The bus reports link up, so the physical connection is fine — this is a software/driver issue introduced in 25.11. In prior versions the bus attached correctly.

This affects anyone using the mPCIe slot on the 2100 for any purpose — WiFi expansion cards, or anything else that relies on the PCIe bus being functional.

Has anyone found a workaround, or can Netgate confirm whether this is targeted for a fix in an upcoming release? Would love to know if 26.x addresses this.

      Thanks

Nope the PCIe bus device is still undetected in 26.03-RC

The ath driver is also broken as far as I know but there's no way to test it currently.

        [26.03-RC][root@2100-2.stevew.lan]/root: dmesg | grep pci
        pcib0: <Marvell Armada 3700 PCIe Bus Controller> mem 0xd0070000-0xd008ffff irq 5 on simplebus0
        pcib0: link up
        pci0: <OFW PCI bus> on pcib0
pci0: failed to allocate bus number
        device_attach: pci0 attach returned 6
