Solid blue circle after failed upgrade netgate 4100
-
I went to update my router to the current branch and just let it do its work through the web interface. After about 10 mins I noticed the internet wasn't working and saw the solid blue circle on the router. I tried restarting and same thing.
I had some activity in the console asking me for my login and password but now I'm getting nothing in the console after restarting. I have a USB with the netgate image flashed onto it. Holding the reset button shows no changes with the LEDs. Holding the power button does put it into standby mode.
Just wondering what else I should try. I read this thread https://forum.netgate.com/topic/199684/update-to-25.11-failed-on-both-4100-one-is-kind-of-bricked-help-needed but it doesn't have the procedure listed.

@Zaklamacs this may hurt but you probably didn’t wait long enough.
It should always have something at the console though. Blue solid is power on. The reset button isn’t a hardware reset.
Did you unplug power?
-
@SteveITS Yes I did unplug the power.
-
Yes, what is shown on the console now when it's powered up?
You should always see the output from BlinkBoot there.
-
@stephenw10 the console shows nothing. I had it ask for user and password earlier but now I'm failing to recreate that.
-
Hmm, but the LED still changes from orange to blue when you connect power?
That implies it's POSTing so you should see something on the console. You're using the USB console?
-
@stephenw10 Yes. I've tried on a macbook and windows pc. Both recognize it but the cursor is solid not flashing.
-
Can you try the RJ45 serial port? Of note is that the RJ45 port takes priority over the USB port. If you have something connected to that you will see no output on the USB port.
-
@stephenw10 using the RJ45 port I see a flashing cursor that holds solid when holding keys down. Unfortunately I see no text.
-
Hmm, I assume at 115200bps? And you had been using the serial console previously with the same setup?
There's not much you do with no output like that. You can try removing the cmos battery to reset the BIOS values. Whilst the case is open you can check the internal diagnostic LEDs.
After power up they should look like:

-
@stephenw10 Yes I have those 4 LEDs green. Also solid green at the RJ45 port. I tried resetting CMOS as well.
-
Hmm, I assume this is out of warranty? If not you should open a ticket.
