Is it possible to use a CE 2.8.1 config on CE 2.7.2?
-
I've been doing a lot of changes to my CE 2.8.1 setup and wanted to include those in my saved config of CE 2.7.2 in case I ever needed it in the future.
Just wondering if I booted up CE 2.7.2 loaded my older CE 2.7.2 config could I then install the CE 2.8.1 config into CE 2.7.2 so that I could then have an updated CE 2.7.2 config to save off?
Or would that just make a mess of the CE 2.7.2 install/setup?

Maybe this clarify it for you:

It depends what you changed. There are some values in a 2.8.1 config that are invalid in 2.7.2. Mostly it will just ignore those but some things change between config versions that do not play nicely in older pfSense. Try it and see. Be sure to backup the old 2.7.2 config though.

Thanks for the responses. When I have some downtime I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. Most of what I've been updating in 2.8.1 deal with firewall rules, aliases, NTP, and removing a few unnecessary packages.
I'll always have my baseline 2.7.2 config backup to restore to if it goes sideways.
