pfSense+ wont update on SG-2100
-
I recently attempted to update pfSense+ v25.11 running on a Netgate SG-2100 to v26.03.1 during which pfSense+ displayed an “Update Failed message; several additional attempts produced the same result. (This SG-2100 had been working well for several months.) I then attempted a Reset to Factory Defaults first via the menu choice and then via the manual reset button, both of which failed. I tried a few other suggestions for doing a reset, all of which failed. At this point, my only apparent remaining choice was to reinstall pfSense+. After creating a bootable installer USB, I was able to start the installer and get to the point where the installer attempts to connect to the Negate servers; for reasons unknown, connecting to the Netgate servers failed.
After some online research, I learned that Netgate can provide a link to a file which reinstalls pfSense+ without an online connection. However, gaining access to this file apparently requires submitting a trouble ticket. I attempted to submit a trouble ticket via the form on the Netgate website a couple of times and could see no indication that my submission was recognized by Netgate. Guidance on how to proceed appreciated.

@frboswell I would have said to see if it was low on space
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/troubleshooting/filesystem-shrink.html
But it sounds like you reformatted already?
The factory defaults choice only replaces the config file.
The new installer requires an Internet connection. How is the WAN configured?

Yes the most likely cause of that failure would have been drive space. If it was though it would have shown an alert on the dashboard indicating that.

I recall a message on this topic but was not familiar with how to deal with this.

PS: I have been delayed from checking in via ScreenConnect due to unrelated issues. Will do so tomorrow AM.

i have the same exact same issue. same model unit, and versions updating from and to.
the disk space is as follows:
Mount Used Size Usage / 1.1G 2.2G 51% of 2.2G (zfs)a 51% usage, that means i need to delete some old ver instances, or ?
-
Yup almost certainly remove some old BE snapshots to free up space.

@stephenw10 thanks for the reply/help. that should do it to allow the update to complete. i'll know in a few hours when i get to it.
