      Hello all,

we have a Netgate 6100 Max @26.03.1-RELEASE with a strange behavior.
Customer told us that they have no internet connection.
The site to site VPN to us is still working, also unbound is working, but we cannot login anymore.
      SSH: no login prompt
Web GUI: after login we got no response
The customer had to push the power button to reset the box.
After a reboot it is working again for some days.
We checked the logs but last entry is three days ago, so we have no clue at the moment what the problem is.
Is there any known issue with 26.03.1?
      Any hint?

      Thank you in advance.

Without any data ? Euh ....
(no logs, no one telling that he 'ripped out the wrong cable' ? 😊 )

pfSense LAN interface leds are lit up ?, good colors ? The others side (a switch ?) also ?

        But some one forgot something.
pfSense can't ... well ... shouldn't be switched of like a light bulb. It's the same device as a PC : rip out the power, or push the reset button, and it's like playing Russian roulette. The file system (ZFS) is robust, but pushing it is something you shouldn't try, because if you win ... euh ... loose, you've a major issue.

Presenting pfSense's most important interface : the console access **.
It can be used to 'question' the device, and if no solution can be found, or 'no time', then there is a 'software initiated reboot command'.

When all goes well, you never need it anymore, as you had to use it to install pfSense.
It is needed to re install pfSense.
Btw : take advantage of the main benefit : If you know how to connect to it, and handle it, you won't need it.
The other way around is also very (even more) true.

You are right and normally we don`t do that, but the customer needed the internet connection at once. I told him that this could end in a file system corruption, but this was his decision.

Because we this behavior occures every second or third day since six weeks, we will setup a syslog server to get a clue what is going on there.
We have /var in a RAM disk which should be the the reason why we don`t see any entries in the log file, because it never stores it to disk.

              Good :
Syslog to an external log server.
Also : it's a MAX version, so drive issues are close to none.

If possible, use the system without a RAM disk. Your 6100 should be fast enough anyway, and this removes one more possible issue.

Do you use any 'big pfSense packages' ?

If you get the login for the webgui but nothing after logging in it's almost always because PHP has stopped responding for some reason. Check the system logs when the failure first happened.

Now we know what the problem is.
The NVMe is broken after four weeks.
                  This is the console output:

@getcom said in Netgate 6100 Max: strange behavior: no SSH or web GUI login:

                      It's new ? Warranty.
If not, there is the two step solution : 1) order the correct drive, and b) : M.2 NVMe SSD Installation
