2.9.0 APU2 Huawei ME909s-120 4G modem not detected

Upgraded from 2.8.1 to 2.9. Everything works perfectly apart from Huawei ME909s-120 4G modem no longer being detected on PcEngines APU2. Maybe something to do with FreeBSD 16.0-CURRENT? also lots of 'chvf0: cannot map' messages?

Hmm, you actually have a Chelsio NIC in that APU2?

Do you see the Huawei modem on the USB bus? What does usbconfig list show?

@stephenw10 PC Engines APU2 has 3 i210AT NICs, no Chelsio NICs.

I booted linux on the APU2, and Huawei ME909s-120 shows ok on lsusb. I also booted into opnsense installer and it shows ok on that what is running FreeBSD-15.1. Sounds like something to do with FreeBSD-16.0 current?

@patient0 I'm unsure why Chelsio NICs are being detected at all when it boots pfSense 2.9.0/FreeBSD-16-Current. Maybe some kind of irq conflict/mismatch or it thinks the Huawei ME909s-120 is a Chelsio NIC? I'm unsure?

I have a plain APU2 Lab machine with a pfsense+ home licence and I get those detections too:

In 26.07? Can you check any earlier versions?

I would guess it must be seeing one of the USB controllers as that Chelsio device for some reason. Which is weird!

Check pciconf -lv in different versions if you can.

I am running CE 2.9.0, to downgrade I would need to download the installer from netgate? or install CE 2.7.2 using iso and select 2.8.1 if that exists?

I have only the dmesg output from older versions. In 24.11 it wasnt present, it begun with version 25.11 until 26.03 - I havent update to recent version.

Mmm, so with the move to FreeBSD 16 base.

Well if you can check the pciconf output to see what PCI device it thinks it is. Comparing it with an output from something FreeBSD 15 based should then show you what is missing in 16.

Mmm, I only see a single USB3 controller there. I don't have an APU2 to test against but the APU1 I have has 6 controllers.

Should show in the dmesg output too so one from 24.11 would have them. If they exist. Probably some of those devices shown as noneX there.

So looking for ohciX or ehciX devices.

Yes 1022:7808 is the ehci USB controller device and it has no driver attached. Almost certainly why the modem isn't available.

And that is at pci0 device 19.0 so you can see the Chelsio driver is trying to claim it for some reason.

You could try disabling the Chelsio driver and see if that does anything. I'm not sure if that allows other drivers to try but easy test. Add the loader value:
