suricata causes webgui to freeze after pfsense 2.9 upgrade

if i disable suricata, all is fine. enabled, the webgui works for a couple of minute then freezes. restarting fpm-php and webgui from a console doesn't do anything. i either have to run killall -9 suricata (and i need to include the -9 otherwise killall doesn't kill suricata) or reboot the firewall and disable suricata immediately after.

running top from the console shows suricata running on 1 core at 97% right at the top.

my system is a 4 core low-power xeon that was based upon the 7th gen intels. it has 32gigs of ram and an intel i350t4v2 nic. i assigned php 4Gigs of ram because why not? i've got more than enough.

this all started happening after upgrading pfsense from 2.8.x to 2.9, and i only use the stable branch.

any help is greatly appreciated!
