26.03.1 Repository update issues: "Bad Request"
-
There seems to be a fair amount of similar issues in this forum. A few weeks back I started getting errors stating
check_upgrade: "Updating repositories metadata" returned error code 1. Going through the posts I've seen on this forum and Reddit I've read that this can be certificate-related or registration-related.I've tried a
certctl rehashwhich runs fine, followed by apkg-static update -f, which is met with numerous "Bad Request" errors. Running apfSense-repoc -NZDgives merepoc_zuul: Failed to read the repository data (1).My box is a homelab on a VM, but I don't believe I've changed anything hardware-wise. The NDI appears the same - the last time I had an issue with a VM freakout my NDI was changed - it doesn't seem to have changed here. But I've noticed that in the GUI I get a warning on the update page that
Your device has not been registered for pfSense+. Please purchase a pfSense+ subscription to receive future updates. However when I go to Register, it saysYour device does not require registration, we recognize it already. You may have already registered, or it may be a pre-registered Netgate appliance.I don't know where to go from here. 26.03 was fine, and at least initially 26.03.1 didn't give me any issues. Thoughts? Did my license get half-borked somehow?

@jsnl if your license is a "Home or Lab Evaluation" license, send your NDI to @stephenw10 in a chat and he'll check it. If it's a 2022 "Limited Time pfSense Plus Promotion" then the license has run out.

@patient0 License was definitely pre-2022. I built a pair of machines in the 2010s when homelab licenses were still free. The license had to be transferred in either 2024 or 2025 when a software update to the VM reassigned all of my NIC MACs and it generated a new NDI.
But I'll reach out and see what he says.

It appears to have been registration-related. All fixed!
Thanks.
