      I'm new to pfsense. I installed version 2.9.0 a few days ago on a Dell Optiplex 7060 SFF with an intel i350-t2 NIC installed in the PCIx4 slot. The issue is the NIC only works for about a minute and then detaches. I'm not sure if this is a BIOS issue or an incompatibility with version 2.9.0. I did disable the onboard NIC in the BIOS settings. Are there any other BIOS settings I may have missed?
      Any thoughts/recommendation are appreciated.no interfaces found 9-29-26 small.jpg

        Hmm, that screenshot seems to show the NICs attaching after the system has initiated shutdown?

        It pretty much has to be something low level like a bios option or a hardware fault. I would check for power saving options and disabled them. Like ASPM.

          @stephenw10 Thanks for the reply.
          I did not mention that prior to the screen shot the system did startup and the NIC seemed to be running fine for about 1 minute and then it detached so I did a hard restart and ended up at the screenshot.

            So that's maybe old output on the screenshot that didn't get overwritten?

            Either way a PCIe device should never detach like that at run time. It pretty much has to be either a power saving option or a hardware fault.

            You could try booting something else and check the NIC remains stable there. Some Linux live image perhaps.

              @stephenw10 I just double checked and the the power saving option in the BIOS was disabled so I'm going to assume its the NIC or the physical PCIex4 slot. I think I will try plugging it into the PCI x16 slot.

                @stephenw10 Also, I unfortunately don't have another machine to try the NIC in. I am getting some NICs from other manufacturers delivered today to try.

                  @stephenw10 Thanks for your help. It was the intel i350-t2 NIC. I installed a 10Gtek NIC and all is good for now. I know Netgate/pfsense recommend authentic intel NICs, but I will give this one a try.

                    Authentic Intel isn't much help if it's broken! 😉

                    What chip/driver is the 10GTek using?

                      @stephenw10 You are correct! The amazon listing for the 10Gtek indicates the Intel i350am2 controller.

                        I would expect that to be fine then.

                          @stephenw10 I agree. I will do some more research on it Thanks for your guidance.
