Update 2-Oct-2026@ 11:58: I've just spotted that the same issue described below applies to the 'Traffic' and 'Packets' Monitoring categories too. I've left the original post unchanged as it is still valid but as Traffic, Packets and Thermal data is all charted as 0.0 it perhaps points to a wider, common root cause...

      Original post:
My Netgate 4100, pfSense+, has reliably reported thermal data until this August. The UI exposed this info on the Dashboard and on the Status -> Monitoring - System, Thermal Sensors page.

Since updating in August the temperature is still correctly reported on the Dashboard but the Monitoring page always reports 0.0 for 'thermal_tz0', 'cpu_1' and 'cpu_0'.

I reviewed the System -> Advanced -> Miscellaneous, Cryptographic & Thermal Hardware properties and 'Thermal Sensors' is set to "Intel Core* CPU on-die thermal sensor". As the 4100 has a Intel CPU and I've not previously changed it, I assume this default is correct. I've tried 'None/ACPI' today but that doesn't seem to resolve the issue either.

If I expand the timescale of the Monitoring chart to at least 3 months I can see a reasonably steady chart of temperatures around 42 degrees Celsius with all three (thermal _tz0, cpu_1 and cpu_0) dropping to 0.0 from 23-Aug-2026.

      I'm now using version: 26.07-RELEASE (amd64).

Can anyone confirm the correct setting of the 'Thermal Sensors' advanced configuration property please?

Did the recent update perhaps introduce a bug or reset some other property that needs change?

      Help appreciated.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

        Hi,

if you have "system patches" installed then apply this patch from Luke (luckman212):

        https://gist.githubusercontent.com/luckman212/33ff1715fd3a8d6cf5376e3dbc182b07/raw/4bf37bbfda93baf382175d82a99db9bdba7c364d/rrd.inc.patch

wait a while and then check the monitoring.
        Hope it helps.

Thanks @FireOdo. I was not aware of 'system patches'. As I originally thought only thermals were impacted I hadn't spotted the thread. I will give it a go then post an update. Thanks again.

The other war around for me.
My 4100 sensors temp are fine, according to my own stats and graphs.
Didn't know that pfSense own monitoring wasn't doing its job.

              Thanks @FireOdo and @Luke

@FireOdo, patch applied and backend restarted as identified in the thread. Also rebooted just for good measure. Happy to report that I'm now seeing new data being charted in the Monitoring view for all categories. I'll let this run for a day or so but initial feedback is that applying the patch resolved the issue.

Just for anyone else reaching this thread. The issue is discussed in:
                  https://forum.netgate.com/topic/201165/status-monitoring-no-monitoring-data-logged-while-in-wan-failover

                  Thanks,
                  Andrew
