2 WANS / PfSense
-
Hello,
I am trying to set up 2 WANS with fail over only. I have an idea on how to do that.
I have 2 Cable Modems with Dynamic IPS, 1 will connect to WAN and the other to OPT1. And then I have a LAN Port.
What do I put in for the gateway for WAN and OPT1 ? 192.168.1.1 ? (The IP of the PfSense box?)
Im kind of confused here.
Also when I try to create the pools, the interface name drop down list is blank. I have read somewhere that this is because there is no gateway inputted on the WAN and OPT1, is this true ?
Thanks for your assistance in advance.

Exactly true. Your WAN interfaces need to know where to forward outgoing traffic. If your ISP gave you a static IP address then they will have given you your gateway also. If not, then you should likely be using dhcp or pppoe, both of which will set your gateway address automatically.

Right basically both connections are DHCP back to the provider, so once I actually physically connect my modems to WAN and OPT1 the fields will become available in the load balance interface drop down list ?
Thanks again

That's what I would expect.

UPDATE:
If you are using DHCP you need to connect fpsense to your modem and then the Interfaces will become available in the pool
