Installing driver for Cardbus 3com575 (3ccfe575ct)
-
I bought a Cardbus LAN card, but that wasn't supported I guess, so I bought another in the hope of getting that to work (the old thread for the other card is here).
I am running pfSense 2 beta.
This new card has the same symptoms, it doesn't show up in the list of ethernet cards.
Here is the output from dmesg:

The card should be supported by FreeBSD. Look at http://www.freebsd.org/releases/7.2R/hardware.html and search for 3CCFE575CT for proof. :)
I have tested the computer with LinuxMint live-CD, and the network card worked fine, so both the card and the cardbus works ok.
Can someone point me in the right direction, or is there something helse I can give you to help me solve the problem?

Its been my experience that FreeBSD doesn't always correctly initialise cardbus bridges; so that if the BIOS doesn't correctly initialise the cardbus bridge it doesn't seem to get correctly initialised and devices downstream of the bridge don't get seen. That seems to be the case here. There are no devices visible downstream of the bridge.
For interest, you might like to reboot Linux and from the shell give the command:
lspci -v
and compare the output with that from the pciconf command.
Do you get a different result from pfSense 2.0?

The command lspci was not found. I searched the internet for lspci and freebsd, and I found out that the command pciconf is instead of lspci (link)
Update: Now I found something, I searched/googled the error message I get for my cardbus "cbb0: Warning: Bus reset timeout", and found one other guy having the same problem with that bus on FreeBSD. He has an Acer TravelMate 2423WXCi, I have an Acer TravelMate 2428AWXMi. I used to be an Acer technician, and I know all TravelMate 242x should have the same mainboard.
I need this computer up and running as a firewall. Maybe I should look for another firewall distro in this case? I know the cardbus works fine in debian.

There are some USB NICs supported by FreeBSD including some that supposedly operate at 480Mbps on the USB side.
I ran smoothwall (based on Linux) for a while then switched to pfSense for the much better wireless support. I haven't had any reason to even look at going back.
