Static route added never shows up
-
Hello All,
pfSense 1.2.3
LAN - using the the default ip address of 192.168.1.1
Needed to add a static route as we have ip phones in the mix at this building, so to match the removed firewall i tried adding a static route of : 192.168.1.0/24 > gateway 192.168.10.5- this allows the ip phones router to the pfSense box -WAN access.
After 'apply configuration' I never see this route in the diagnostics/routes- I can still access the pfSense box from the LAN interface. After the pfSense box is rebooted I can no longer access the pfSense box through the LAN interface- 192.168.1.1 ?- I have added the 192.168.10.0/24 network to the allowed networks in firewall rules/LAN.
- I tried checking the "Allow LAN traffic to pass on the same interface" in the 'Advanced configuration' page. This did not make any difference.
I am sure there is something I need to add to make this static route work, but I can't picture what it is.
Thank You,
Barry -
The gateway in a static route has to be on your locally connected network.
So if your LAN is 192.168.1.1, you need a static route for 192.168.10.0/24 pointed to the other router on 192.168.1.x that can talk to the 192.168.10.x network.

jimp,
Thanks for the info! I'll give that a try on Monday, back at the salt mines…
On the taken out Linux based firewall it does have the following static route entry:192.168.1.0/24 gateway 192.168.10.5
It's been a while since I have even been at this building so this looks kinda funky to me as well?
It does work though?,,,:)
I'll give your suggestion a try and see if the machines & phones can work, with that configuration.Thank You,
Barry
