PFSense 1.2.3 WAN IP address change through console method
-
Fairly new to PFSense and have done lots of reading. I have a current important situation whereas ISP changed WAN IP to on line
active system without notification to client. I have tried to GUI into PFSense using laptop and old WAN or LAN..not working.
So is there an easy way to change to WAN address through the PFSens on-screen console? I have tried the help and the console
shell conmmands and either I am doing something work(likely) or it is not working or saving correctly. Can someone please help out in this scenario? Customer has been off line 36 hours. This is PFSense 1.2.3 using as wireless controller and firewall option. Thank you! -

Unfortunately you haven't provided enough info about your configuration, so the following is an attempt to suggest what to do for a number of different configurations.
Do you have a modem/router betwen pfSense and the internet?
YES: Does it use PPP or DHCP on its link to the Internet?
YES: Reboot modem/router or otherwise initiate a WAN link reset (e.g. remove cable, put it back again)
NO: Change modem/router's WAN IP address.
NO: Does pfSense use PPP or DHCP on its WAN interface?
YES: Initiate a pfSense WAN link reset: web GUI: Status -> Interfaces click Disconnect button in section for WAN interface then click the reconnect button.
NO: From pfSense console menu, select Option 2 (Set Interface(s) IP address) and follow the dialogue to change the address. -
If you can get to the console you can get the LAN IP. If the GUI doesn't respond on the LAN side either your LAN has a problem (or the workstation you used to attempt a connection has a problem) or pfSense itself has a problem, either of which could be the cause of the problem for your client. I too am not sure what you mean by "changed WAN IP to online active system". That almost sounds like you had a static IP configured and now they are providing you with something like PPPoE or DHCP for the IP and the static IP you had configured is no longer valid.
