3g modems and ppp not starting
-
Hi
I'm running the snapshot from yesterday (Wednesday 25th) on an Alix 2d13.
My issue is with the ppp not running consistently with 3g USB modems.
I have a sierra USB modem which is recognised correctly.
I have a WAN connection (ethernet) and the 3g as failover.
If I boot the alix without the WAN or 3g connected, and then connect the
WAN, the link/route etc. starts up fine.
If I boot the alix without the WAN or 3g connected, and then connect the
3g, I can see on the console that it is recognised, ports created etc. but
it never dials.
If I boot the alix without the WAN, but with the 3g plugged in, ppp starts
early in the boot sequence, routes come up and all is fine until I disconnect
the 3g card. The console shows the device disconnecting ok, and if I then plug
it back in, the console shows it being found again, but the ppp never starts
to bring the link back up.I have tried various combinations of dial on demand, but it seems to make no
difference.Any ideas?

Can you give your system logs during this?

Here are two log files, one (run) showing that the ppp starts if the USB modem is connected
when the alix is booted. The second (norun) shows that the ppp does not start if the
modem is connected after the alix is booted.
