Compact flash & Microdrive embedded space free
-
Dear all,
I try pfsense on both 4GB compact flash and on a 1GB IBM microdrive with pfSense embedded version.
Worked both very well but i have a confusion that also other People may have.
It i suggested the embedded version for compact flash solid state version.
I noticed that on both 1GB and 4GB the disk used reported is 65%.
With df -k i see:
Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/ufs/pfSense 110019 66100 35118 65% /
devfs 1 1 0 100% /dev
/dev/md0 39406 1458 34796 4% /tmp
/dev/md1 19566 5112 12890 28% /var
/dev/ufs/pfSenseCfg 4631 40 4221 1% /cf
devfs 1 1 0 100% /var/dhcpd/devSeems that the embedd version did use only a few bytes (probably this versioion has been done for a compact flash of 128 MB)
so if I use a 4GB (or less) a lot space is not used.
If insted i download a 2GB or 4GB version probably they are not customized for solid state compact flash.
- What are your suggestion ?
- wich version to use
- can i enlarge the /dev/ufs/pfsense direcory ?
Thanks.

All the embedded versions are optimised for storage with limited write capability.
- What are your suggestion ?
Follow the Info -> Versions link from the pfSense home page and read the description of the different versions.
- wich version to use
See above
- can i enlarge the /dev/ufs/pfsense direcory ?
Why? What are you wanting to do with system?

Dear Wallabybob,
thanks for your suggestions:
i check (for example) on http://files.chi.pfsense.org/mirror/downloads/
but from (info –> Version)
http://www.pfsense.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=44
I only see a list of different version but no point to download.
I did not find the embedded version for 2gb and 4gb except if they are the nanobsdxx version ;D.
Thanks a lot.

Try the Download link.
nanobsd version is the embedded version (with "disk" writes restricted, so suitable for Compact Flash "hard drives").

thanks

In use, none

Covered in the FAQ ;)
In short, each are for the respective size of media (1 GB, 2 GB and 4 GB CF cards etc).
