FYI: Strange problem with Google
-
I'm not sure why, but after my pfSense box runs for a while, when I try to open www.google.com, Firefox will sit there "connecting to www.google.com" and eventually times out. I don't have this problem with any other web sites I visit, only Google. The only way to fix it is for me to reboot the pfSense box. I'm using the latest i386 RC version and use OpenDNS for my DNS servers. The installed packages are CountryBlock with only the top spammers countries selected, HVAP Antivirus and Snort.
This is more of an annoyance than a show-stopper and I just wanted to report the issue.

I guess you're not the only one using pfsense also using Google so this is kinda strange… The next time Firefox times out, do a ping on www.google.com to see if the address gets resolved or not (assuming you use the DNS forwarder of your pfsense box, you should get a timeout...)

I believe I've figured it out. I de-activated the snort icmp rules (including the so rules) and Google is now working. Normally I'd have to reboot the firewall to get it working again. I'll monitor it for a while to see if the problem recurs. I don't understand why this only affects Google and no other web sites. ???
