New server
-
Hi, i'm helping out with a local lan party and are doing some of the network. Was thinking of running pfsense as the nat router, and was hoping you could give me some advice on a new server.
This time we will most likely have a 100/100 Mbit connection and around 60 ppl, but for next lan party we will probably get a 1/1Gbit connection and have around 100 ppl there so the server needs to hold that.
I made a quick setup with:
ASUS P8B-M
Xeon E3-1225
Intel E1G42ET
Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 12GB KIT REG/ECCWould this be good enough to do nat routing and maybe som graphs over the net usage.

Please start with the hardware sizing guide. After that read the documentation and search the forum;)
Your hardware should certainly cope with 200 Mb/s, though whether it will cope with 2 Gb/s I don't know.

Allready read the sizing guide, that's why i went with a Xeon cpu, and i tried to search the forum, but couldnt seem to find any posts about hardware when it came to routing 1/1Gbit connections

Don't know why i coulnd find them, but thx for the links. After looking thru those i decided to go down to a desktop motherboard, a i5 2500k and 8 GB non ecc ram.
Looking forward to getting things up and running on that :)
