How do i achieve this? dual wan single lan
-
I have a box setup with 3 nics and 1 onboard nic.
i have a dynamic cable modem and static dsl.I want to make it so that everybody on the lan is always using both wans all the time. If one fails i want it to make everyone switch to the wan that is up.
How do i go about doing this? Routing groups? Lagg? What? Please be detailed. Thanks!

This type of multi wan setup is well documented in the wiki, here.
Have a read through that and come back with questions! ;)Steve

I have both wans setup on the same tier and I'm using a p2p torrent service to download misc (legal) things to test if both connections are used and on the dashboard I have traffic graphs setup and only 1 wan is showing usage =\ wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I think my issue is I don't understand the firewall section of that link you sent. If I had examples that would seriously help me.
edit
I edited the firewall rule under the LAN tab with the description: Default allow LAN to any rule and told it to set the gateway to my gateway group (INTERWEBS) and now I notice maybe 1-5kb of useage even though I've set the wait for the connection 5:1 and I've even tried 1:5 and seems to use it just the same. This is while downloading like 10 different torrents.

Yep played with it more. All I was missing was that firewall rule to be edited. It will randomly pick which connection to use (after doing 20-30 speed tests on speak easy) I can see it fully use one or the other connection at its discretion. Which is I suppose as close to what I would want. :)
edit
after further more playing with this. It has randomly decided to stop responding period. no ping response from the firewall at all. So I waited 10 minutes, no change, so I then disconnected the LAN cable from the adapter, waited a second, and plugged it back in, then all of a sudden I got a ping response and my internet was all back up.
Any idea why this just happened?

Personally I've never had to alter the weighting, I've always found it balanced fairly well at the default settings.
It should share the load and use both connections with bit torrent. The speedtest.net site can test multiple wan connections.
Have you made sure you have DNS servers from each gateway. That shouldn't cause a problem until you have to failover.

Yep I have 4 dns servers listed. 2 for each wan. I noticed the weighting seems to have little to no difference except it would prevent the faster connection from utilizing 100% of its potential in certain weights, which makes sense.
During the bit torrent tests it used maybe 1% of the 2nd connection between 10 torrents downloading at a total of around 3.5MB/sec. One connection is a 25MB/3MB and the other is a 8MB/1MB

Hmm, I would expect bit torrent to share better than that.
Try the speedtest.net client. It is able to pretty much max out my two connections, 40/2 and 20/1. It gives me ~57Mbps. Not every time though, occasionally it only uses one connection.Steve

Im using vuze. What client would you recommend. Perhaps thats the reason. Some setting in my client. Also ive just been going to speakeasy.net/speedtest to do my test. Is there something more specific your telling me to use?
-
No I'm talking about their online client that downloads and runs on your machine every time you go to the site, nothing special.
I was just pointing out that of all the bandwidth testing sites out there speedtest.net is the only one I've found that can test multiple connections.Steve
