WAN IP on /31 (255.255.255.254) subnet is not an option in pfsense
-
Moving our rack to a Data Center and they use /31 subnets for routing and i also have a /27 block for my load balancers/servers. I was working on pre-configuring our fw with all of our new addresses but I saw that the mask skips from /30 to /32. Is there anyways to setup a /31 wan ip?
Thanks in advance
Jonathan

If you will not need to communicate to hosts neer/close to your /31 setup, workaround configuring it with /30
-
Well here is what they gave me….
.2 GW
.3/31 Switch IP facing ISP
.64/27 routes to .3So my guess is /30 would break accessing of the GW.
If I manually edit the pfsense config files will that work?
-
Will not break as 2 and 3 are on same /30 subnet.
If you edit file it may work too.

/31 has only network name and broadcast addresses
/30 has these too, but in addition it has also 2 client ip's -
/31 prefixes are not supported by FreeBSD in 8.x, so pfSense can't support them either.
Support was just added to 9.x two months ago, so perhaps once pfSense 2.1 moves to FreeBSD 9.x it can be added.
