How to set the WAN IP? No way to set it via console?
-
vsphere has no routing, so if you need your vms to be in a subnet, you need pfsense (or equivalent) to route from the WAN to the LAN subnet where the VMS will live.
We installed the pfsense 1.2.3 vm appliance, and fired up the console (production uses this version, se we need to us it in this env too). But there is no way to set the WAN IP, so we are completely stuck. The LAN is not accessable except though the pfsense box itself, so even if one was able to set the WAN IP though the web interface, we cannot access the web interface on its LAN address, as the pfsense box is the only router in the sytem. There are no DHCP servers in the Datacenter.
Any ideas?

On pfSense console: option 2: Set Interface IP address

On pfSense console: option 2: Set Interface IP address
Hi Stege, thanks for the reply. This option is for the LAN interface only, not the WAN one. In vshpere, you cant route to the LAN except through the pfsense, and you cant access pfsense to setup the routing without being on the LAN - chicken and egg. In the end I solved it putting the LAN port on the WAN, and the WAN port on the LAN, configuring it, then swaping it back.

On 2.0 that option can change the WAN IP as well.
You really shouldn't be starting out with 1.2.3 at this stage, 2.0 (and 2.0.1) have been out for many months.
