Can I boot from a USB drive on a x-1000? my firewall flash drive as crashed and it failed.

There isn't a USB port on that box. I believe there is a USB header on the board but it's not populated, you'd have to do some soldering. I don't know if it could boot from USB anyway, it's from an era where USB booting was often not an option. ::)

Are you mounting a CF card? Are you using NanoBSD?
You should try "ufs:/dev/ad0s1a" at the mountroot prompt.
The fact that it is throwing DMA errors suggest that you still have DMA enabled on the CF card.
The standard NanoBSD images have these lines in /boot/loader.conf to disable that:hw.ata.atapi_dma="0" hw.ata.ata_dma="0"

I tried that, pulled the cover off and found the a capacister had blow on the system board. It took out the ethernet ports and I was getting other werid issues. I check out the x700 that I have and it had failing fans and a electrical short.
Until I can find something else to use I stuck with a westell dsl modem and it is driving me crazy!
