DHCP on Vlan
-
Hi Pfsense People,
Thank you for creating such a great platform.
I just set up Vlan 99 on Pfsense 2.0.1, but it seems I am missing something on DHCP server.
Vlan 99 parameters 1.1.1.1/25 with DHCP range 1.1.1.10-1.1.1.90
From Pfsense Vlan 99 interface to switch(Vlan 99 configured) to Host ( Host cant get DHCP IP) and
Even From Pfsense Vlan 99 interface to direct to Host( Host cant get DHCP IP)So any help more than appreciated.

My guess would be that you haven't configured the switch correctly. If the host is not using VLANs then the switch port to the host needs to strip VLAN tags on transmission from the switch and add them on reception in the switch, the switch ports to host and pfSense need to belong to the correct VLAN and the switch port to pfSense needs to be a trunk port (VLAN tags passed through). The exact naming of these parameters depends on the switch.
Have you checked the pfSense DHCP log (Status -> System Logs, click on DHCP tab) for an indication DHCP server had received a request?
Even From Pfsense Vlan 99 interface to direct to Host( Host cant get DHCP IP)
Is the host generating VLAN tags in its DHCP request and expecting them in the response?

Good call Wallabybob.Thanks
I just configured the trunk port.
For the people who uses Cisco switch, I am pasting trunk port configurations
#configure terminal
#interface interface_id
#switchport mode trunk
#switchport trunk encapsulation {isl | dot1q}
#end
#show interface interface-id switchport
#copy running-config startup-config
