Block copy files form share drive
-
what?? Dude if they can read it, then they can copy it!! There is no way to prevent copy if they can read. Unless you prevent them from writing to any media on their local machine. And then also prevent copy paste on their machine since they could just copy content to say something as easy as pastebin.
also even if you prevent writing to any media on the machine they are using - you would also need to prevent ftp http upload, etc.. or they could just read the file and copy it to somewhere on the public net.
There is NO way to actually prevent copy if your going to allow them to read the file.

files from SERVER will be able to view thru firefox.
its a movie server i created for my internet cybercafe.
however for firefox to streaming a movie its need shared drive.firefox will read shared drive let say Z:\ as a movie container.
shud i try to allow only port 8080??
-
Even if you only allow streaming - I can just record what I am streaming.. I could even just do a screen record for that matter.
If I can READ IT, I CAN COPY IT - PERIOD!!
-
thanks..
I wish only to allow streaming the movies.
How can i do that with firewall rules? If user want to screen capture or record.
Its will be their own creativity. But i think its impossible -
how are you wanting to stream them? How are you thinking your going to stream to firefox? A streaming server would be like VLC can stream, or TVersity comes to mind as a streamer.

i wish to block any content inside the file from being copy through network.
each clients will be given with Z:\ drive as a share drive from SERVER 1
Content inside Z:\ for read-only purpose.how can i block all contents inside the file from stealing..
Maybe do you mean windows file sharring, located on one pc. Then you try to make in the pfsense firewall.
If that's what you meant, is the true solution of johnpoz -
opening a file off a z:\ is not streaming it.
-
plugin for firefox require shared drive.
Movie will be play thru firefox streaming from z:\ drive.
no need to open z:\ drive and click on the movie. -

yup ..im using vlc ..intergrated with firefox.
Please search 'movies by craigwork' for more info.
I successfully create streaming movie server with it.
I share D:\ on server as a Z:\ drive on my clients pc.Problem is, how to block all movie from stealing?
-
So is this how your setup?
That is not streaming - that is an index with graphics that points you to where to open the file at. That is NOT a streamer!! Seems very sim to YAMJ.
Also – pfsense is not involved in this sort of configuration anyway. Unless your talking clients on one network segment and server/nas on different network segment.
Pfsense does not come into play for devices on the same network talking to each other.
as to stop stealing?? Like I said you DONT!! If they have READ, they have COPY - PERIOD!
-
If they are all large files you could limit the bandwidth.
E.g. 2 hour movie file of 2gb. Limit the bandwidth to a little higher than the average bitrate. Then to download the file will take about as long as to watch it.

Thats actually a pretty good idea, but still does not prevent the copy. You just slowed it down is all.
