Problem in WAN using SuperMicro X7SPE-HF (Intel 82574L)
-
Hi,
Sorry for this question. I think this was asked so many time but I cannot find any answer in the form. Below is my setup hardware and pfsense version that I've used.
Pfsense 2.0.2-RELEASE (i386)
FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE-p13Hardware: SuperMicro X7SPE-HF
4G Memory, 60G SSD and 2 Gigabit LAN Card (Intel 82574L)I managed to installed the pfsense to this hardware but I just noticed that every 15 to 20 mins the WAN connection is disconnected or in dashboard the gateway is offline. I am not sure if Intel 82574L is fully supported in pfsense version that I used. I have also ipcop with no problem they are connected in one modem with static IP.

Hello, I'm on 2.0.2 i386 with a Intel D2500CCE Mini-ITX, dual Intel 82574L, one LAN one WAN, no issues whatsoever. This is just a work-from-home residential setup with a Verizon FIOS connection. The WAN side reports 83+ Mbps via speedtests. Don't know if it helps…

Check the system logs at the time of of the disconnection. Without more informtation this is just a guess but if you have a bad quality line pfSense may be seeing that and marking it down. If that happens you will see lots of entries in the logs for 'apinger: ALARM' followed by the cause of the alarm which will be either excessive ping time or packet loss. You can tune those parameters to stop that happening over a bad connection, a satellite connection for example.
