Youtube Slow buffering, Factory Defaults
-
Hello Everyone,
Tried searching the forum and google etc but unable to find anything that can point me in the right direction.
I am running
2.0.3-RELEASE (i386)
built on Fri Apr 12 10:22:57 EDT 2013
FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE-p13About 2 weeks ago all of a sudden my whole house started having Youtube buffering issues. Some videos would barely load, or take forever.
I have Comcast speeds about Down 60Mbps Up 12Mbps
I don't have any packages installed, Pretty much running default out of the box, with few firewall rules for DNS but i have had them for over a year now and no problems.
I did some TB and its not my switches, or wireless, When i plug directly into Comcast Modem, everything buffers super fast. I even renewed new IP from Comcast, still buffers slow.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have Comcast
Seems to be a common denominator with a few people I know whether or not they have pfSense.
My customer with Comcast called them up and did some griping and not two minutes after the phone call it got better. They got a new modem yesterday as well due to "errors".

What rules? When you plug directly into the comcast box are you still using the same DNS or switched to comcast supplied servers.
Perhaps this or something similar: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,60558.0.html

Rules only blocking DNS requests to anything but the pfsense box.
I use OpenDNS servers.
So when i plugged directly into the box i get Comcast DNS servers. This is a good test, I'll setup OpenDNS manually today when i connect directly to the Modem and see.
I don't see how different DNS would impact buffering, all it does is tell you where to go. I guess It could be going to a farther youtube servers from my location.
Good point, i'll test and report back.
Thank you.

Exactly, it could be using some Comcast local video cache which is much faster.

I had some really strange issues when I started playing with the MTU settings on the WAN port of my PFSense box. Check with comcast as to what your MTU settings should be.
