82579LM support?
-
I have a Supermicro X9SCM-F board running ESXi 5.1 passing through the 82579LM NIC to pfSense.
I read that someone had this working on 2.0.1 on this forum, I am running 2.0.3 amd64 version but the NIC isn't detected.
Do I need to specifically do something to enable the em driver?

I cannot get ESXi to recognize the Intel 82579LM port on my motherboard. Are you sure ESXi sees the port?

No. You might have more success with pfSense 2.1 which uses much more up to date driver sources than pfSense 2.0.x

ESXi doesn't have drivers for the 82579LM model by default but I found this in the end http://virtual-drive.in/2012/11/16/enabling-intel-nic-82579lm-on-intel-s1200bt-under-esxi-5-1/
So now pass through the 82579L NIC to pfSesne which detects it just fine.
Not ideal but gets the job done with the minimal amount of effort! Haven't tested for performance issues yet though ::)

I am using a motherboard with a 82579LM on it and pfSense. It's not running ESXi but a raw install of pfSense and it's working great. FWIW.
