Ralink RT3062F (Edimax EW-7722In)
-
I've just installed pfsense 2.0.3 and trying to run AP on it.
I am totally newbie to pfsense and to FreeBSD too.
So first studied wireless cards support list (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AojFUXcbH0ROdHgwYkFHbkRUdV9hVWljVWl5SXkxbFE) and decided to go for ral driver (AP support included).
Then studied if_ral_pci.c driver source code (http://svnweb.freebsd.org/base/stable/9/sys/dev/ral/if_ral_pci.c?view=markup) and checked that it seems that RT3062 support is included ("Ralink Technology RT3062").
Then bought the card Edimax EW-7722In (PCI) based on Ralink RT3062F chipset and unfortunally it is not detected in my system.
The support is probably in newer version of driver that is included in pfsense (FreeBSD 8.1).
How can I compile this new driver to add support for my card in pfsense?
Best regards,
p.

It might be just a recompile BUT it MIGHT be a significant effort to backport a FreeBSD 9 driver to FreeBSD 8.1 because the FreeBSD internal interfaces might have changed. In particular, I believe there is partial support for 802.11N in FreeBSD 9 but no 802.11N support in FreeBSD 8.1.
Unless you are prepared for a significant learning experience on the FreeBSD kernel I suggest a much more effective use of your resources would be to buy a card such as the TP-Link WN350GD which is working as an AP in my pfSense 2.0.1 home firewall. This card can be bought in retail shops near me for less than the local equivalent of US$15.
Alternatively buy an external AP.
