There isn't much mention in the install guide about what the vlans are for and setting them up (I might have missed it).

When I run the box for the first time it asks if I want to set up my VLAN's y:n? I always choose yes and it goes to autodetect my NIC etc, but should I be saying Y? or is VLAN something more advanced that I don't need to setup?

Im just running a basic router to take over a linksys unit I had before.

VLANs are a way to separate network traffic virtually instead of physically. Instead of having multiple network switches for each network segment, you can use one network switch. Its great for business as you don't have to change cabling. Just click a few buttons in a GUI.
