Why do I still - one year later - have to follow these steps after every pfsense upgrade to get vnstat2 working:

Did the package maintainer / developer abandon this module? That would be a shame.

agreed. either it needs to be updated, or it should be removed (and that would be a shame).
to me it's part of the core of pfsense, as metering is the norm with providers, and the recording in the built in stats are useless.

I have to agree. I LOVE vnstat2, and if it wasn't for the hardware I was using, I wouldn't have went to 2.1 because of vnstat2 not working with it. I greatly miss it, and would really like to have it back as a supported package (without all of the manual hacks).
