Interface cable unplugged, but how to enter 'a' for auto-detection now?
-
Hello,
I'm new to Pfsense and doing my first install on a remote server.
How do I enter the WAN interface name with 'a' for auto-detection by unplugging the Ethernet cable?
As I am in the remote server's pfsense install cli from my local computer, in the remote server's shell with the pfsense install cli.
If I disconnect the Ethernet cable (which connects my local computer to the router to the remote server, I have no way of entering 'a' and Enter? -
If you aren't physically there, or don't have remote access to the switch, you can't use auto-detection. If you know the names of your NICs then just type them in.

Thank you for the reply.
In Proxmox, I ran the command # lspci

I tried ifconfig with results:
some result here but I can't scroll up on the cli

At the initial interface config at the console the names of the available interfaces are listed.
In a virtual environment the host presents virtual NICs to pfsense and there is often a choice of hardware it can simulate. Intel Gigabit NICs are a common type that would appear in pfSense as em0, em1 etc.Steve
