Zotac ZBOX ID42 wifi - any chance?
-
Hello,
looks like its not a go but just thought i would ask.
its got a Intel centrino wireless n 135 wifi chip, i think. Any chance anyone could help getting this working?
Thanks,

I seem to remember looking into this before and coming up empty. The Centrino 130 is supported by the iwn(4) driver and under Linux the 130 and 135 are supported by the same driver. However the 135 is only supported by a much newer kernel (in Linux) and I can find no mention of it for FreeBSD.
Have a look in the FreeBSD forums/mailing lists.Edit: Looks like support was added to head 3 months ago: http://svnweb.freebsd.org/base?view=revision&revision=260448 However that means it won't be supported in 2.1.X and probably isn't in 2.2 snapshots either but it would make including it in 2.2 much easier.

:D thx for the info, and i hope that it will included.

Try one of the 2.2 snapshots to make sure it not included already. There have been some issues with modules not included recently though so maybe wait a while, or both.
You may not be able to persuade the devs to include an updated iwn driver. The 2.2 release is all about bringing us up to FreeBSD 10 and not about adding new features. However you may be able to build your own iwn kernel module from the sources in head and load it at boot time into pfSense. This has worked previously with other NIC drivers.

yeah i was actually looking at build a iwn kernel module but i really don't have a clue m8 ;D not there yet, baby steps :)

I've never tried it with a newer than release FreeBSD either. Here's what I would do. Get a recent FreeBSD snapshot from, say, here: ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/snapshots/ISO-IMAGES/10.0/
Install it on a spare machine or as a VM. Build the kernel module. It's very easy but I can't quite remember the details. ::) Basically go to the module source folder and type 'make'. Kernel module appears in a completely different folder! However before you try any of this I don't think the iwn module supports hostap mode so you wouldn't be able to use it as an access point.

Not supporting hostap mode is what i was afraid of, it's the whole reason i have wanted wifi working :-[
This little box is so nice with the dual Lan and not to crazy expensive. I will just have to use my TP-Link - TL-WA901ND 2.0, as my wifi access point then. Mulit-SSID da thing ;D
May give building a kernel module in a VM a go at some point because as you say it does not look like it's too crazy mad scary to do.
Thanks for the help/info 8)
