[RESOLVED] pfSense-LiveCD-2.1.5 install on Dell Optiplex GX520
-
Having some issues here… I have ran the live CD, configured and the processed the install (option 99).
On reboot of the system, screen and boot appear to freeze:
Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 067)
Copyright (C) 1997,1998 Intell CorporationAm I doing something wrong or is this system not compatible with the installation?

Note: Same results pfSense-LiveCD-2.1.5-RELEASE-amd64-20140825-0744.iso and pfSense-LiveCD-2.1.5-RELEASE-i386-20140825-0744.iso

Looks like it's failing to boot the hard drive after installation. Do you see any error messages from either the BIOS or the boot loader? Is the hard drive known to be good? What size and type is it?
Have you looked through this?:

Thanks for getting back to me.
I did not see any errors from BIOS. As for the boot loader, I don't think it is even booting? Hard drive is good, tried two. Both Seagate - Barracuda 40gig. Older but have worked perfectly well. Taken from workstations in production environment, had Win 7 Ultimate running on them previously.
Systems tested on are:
-
Dell Optiplex GX 520, standard hardware + 1 PCI NIC
-
MCP ClientPro, standard hardware + 1 PCI NIC
Having read the troubleshooting post, I will attempt to disable all secondary hardware, USB / Floppy and try booting again.

Oh my… Seems I found my issue:
pfSense software has the flexibility to be installed on a wide range of hardware, but it is currently supported only on the x86 architecture. The types of devices supported range from embedded devices to rack mounted servers.
Dragging one of my old dinosaurs out of storage for testing.

And a successful install and boot! Guess there is still a use for these old Optiplex GX 270's

I would expect it to run on the GX520 though. Coulc be a disk controller issue or some bios bug that effects FreeBSD.
