Hello. I was wondering if it is possible setup pfsense with clamav between my router and my ubuntu server. and then make pfsense scan my ubuntu filesystems once a day ?

Why on earth would you set up a firewall/router distro to run a crappy antivirus scan on some remote box?

i am setting the pfsense up on a j1800 board, and my server is running on a j1900 board and i didn't want to waste my small resources on a antivirus scan there is taking 153 minutes :D
Still a bad idea?

So, you are going to run this on an even slower CPU, plus additionally hog the network by transferring everything scanned? Sorry, but this really makes no sense to me.

yearh i can see what you mean :'(
the whole project isn't that great when you put it in that ligth -
Does Clam AV actually find any malicious activity? I think its probably one of the worst AV available and in most comprehensive reviews, its not even in the testing regime…

Regarding ClamAV: If you run some mailserver and want to provide basic AV for free, it's fine for that purpose. And that's about it. I'd certainly forget about it when it comes to fileservers, since it's a darned horrible resource hog, slow as molasses with pathetic detection rates, broken archives handling and stupid false positives that get ignored by upstream no matter how many times you report them.

what alternative would be better to Clamav ? It has to be free because the cloud storage i provide to a few other users is a free service for now and i really dont want to waste anymore money on it.?
All my other users are windows and mac users so it has to scan for virus made for other systems aswell
