Success with 2.2 on old Netgate Hamakua (FW-7522)
-
Just wanted to report success with loading 2.2 on an old Netgate Hamakua (replaced by a Netgate C2758 a few months ago).
I first tried loading the amd64 version listed on https://firmware.netgate.com/firmware/hamakua/, but got the "CPU doesn't support long mode" error that tells me that my cpu doesn't support amd64… I wonder if there are multiple versions of the FW-7522 that have 64bit support, or maybe those files are not specifically for the FW-7522.
Loading the 386 version did the trick, along with following the fix at https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Embedded_install_on_Netgate_Hamakua
I'm not sure why netgate has a hamakua download when it doesn't include the boot fix though?
Once 2.2.1 is out with the 386 wake on lan fix I'll be able to keep using this old machine. This hardware also works great for self defense when not in active use because of how heavy and solid it is.

Spoke too soon, the system cannot handle a power failure. It will boot fine once, then if the power gets pulled, it will get stuck at the boot loader prompt.
If I re-do the boot fix it might work again, it might not. Maybe I have bad cf cards, they are original, 7 years old.
