TWC TV and Dual WAN
-
I have a dual WAN setup using my pfSense router. One Internet provider is Time Warner and one is Windstream. The two gateways are load balanced.
I am wanting to start using the TWC TV app, but occasionally the app tells me I am away from home and limits what channels I can view.
Can I resolve this with a simple firewall rule to tell any TWC TV app traffic to go out of the Time Warner WAN interface? If so, would I only need to know the IP addresses used when a client contacts the TWC TV app?
The web address is:
http://video2.timewarnercable.com/liveTv -
Make a gateway group that has TW tier 1, other WAM tier 2.
Make an Alias containing the TW TV IP addresses (or the FQDN) lets cal it TWTV
Put a rule at the top of LAN that matches traffic to the TW TV destination TWTVThe challenge will be if the server at that FQDN hands off the TV feed to various other IP addresses - then you might need to somehow find the full list of IP addresses use by TWTV

Is there any way I can keep them both tier 1 but have a FW rule that tells any traffic destined for TWC TV to go out the Time Warner WAN interface? I realize I'd have to try to find the IPs.
So basically do everything you said but leave them both Tier 1.
I'll look into making an alias. -
Make multiple gateway groups. Your current Load-balance gateway group has both WANs tier1 and has the general rule - that will balance the traffic.
Make another gateway group like I suggested above (tier1, tier2) and use that in the specific rule for the TWTV IPs. -
If I remember there were 2-3 different subnets that are used. video2.timewarnercable.com goes to one, but there are bunch behind the scene for the the video stream itself. I did have a list at one time, but i don't anymore.
