What’s the biggest load you’ve seen regarding session tables?, can a PFSense host handle 4 or 8 million sessions for example?

According to the docs, each state requires 1KB.  So, to handle 4-8 million states you will need 4-8 GB of RAM just for the state table.  You really expect to have 2-4 million concurrent user connections?

          Yup, its expected :)

Ive seen that note, but I would like to hear from real world limits/experiences.

It´s not my domain area, but a coworker is hitting it´s firewall limit which is 4M states. I´m exploring alternatives, like a repurposing a rack mount server running PFsense….

Don't forget that a connection traversing the firewall will need 2 states so each connection traversing the firewall will need 2 KB.

Thanks!, I really would love to push the limits of a PFsense cluster, but according to the coworker a new Eudemon firewall is on its way.
