I fix ships and its been pretty amazing how the main engine control room was an sound proof room with all kinds of handwheels and guages. Now its been reduced to a single console computer.

and when they install a touch screen you will be able to just use your finger to rotate the whole ship on its side or even upside down  :P

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."

No pfSense firewall in front of the computer? The pirates might sink her without anyone even knowing what's going on! Fix it ASAP!  :o ;D

I don't know the specifics on this particular boat, but i remember it had another console midships and one on the bridge. All capable of near total control of engineering. In the old days the chief engineerer was a crusty old guy who sat in main control barking out orders while sitting in his star-trek style chair. With watch standers all sitting at consoles and one guy on the throttles. People in and out checking guages and then there were oilers, peoples who entire job it was to keep oil reservoirs full….

Quite a difference in 30 years

Now the bridge would blow your mind. Satcom these days is real deal.
