Liantec Products…

I have been looking for Jetway alternatives since they use the Realtek NICS and finally called them. Some of their systems even come with cases. I will list the prices they have sent me. Would like to know if anyone knows of any competiitors who are cheaper.
Several models include 4 embedded NICS.

Where to buy?
-
You have to buy from them direct.
-
I really dont find the "buy" button on their homepage or any other information how to buy their products or pricess.
Is this really the site for end costumers to buy? http://www.liantec.com
-
I don't think that they sell to end customers directly as you probably can tell from the fact that they have prices for 100 units in this pricelist.
-
I soppost so, but I dont find any place for end costumers to buy those products. Google didnt help me.
-
http://linitx.com/index.php has similiar products in their shop.
-
I actually had to call Taiwan and speak with a woman by the name of Margaret who has a decent grasp of the English language. Horrible on hold music…...... ;D
-
kd85.com does sell Liantec products (Belgium)
I have the Liantec 5842 with 600MHz Celeron 512KB Cache 4x Intel Gigabitoutstanding Hardware for pfsense
http://www.kd85.com/liantec.html
Wim (the owner of kd85.com) does have the 5740 on order….
Funny enough, he is a OpenBSD guy....
-
His prices are high in dollars if you compareto the euro.. :-( Would rather buy direct…398.00 euro = $617.00. More than double the cost. Would rather order samples direct from Liantec or even if I were to order qty 20 direct I would be saving a ton of money! buying direct each would be under $300.
-
Don't forget the whole tax and duty issue. I suspect that the owner of kd85.com has had to pay tax and duty to get the product into the European Union. Customers in the European Union won't have additional taxes to pay beyond paying the appropriate rate of VAT.
It probably doesn't make financial sense to export these boards from the EU, especially if you're after a large quantity.
Being British, I would far rather buy in the UK if I can, not least as the pound/Euro exchange rate isn't to good at the moment. However, if I have to import an item, I'd far rather do so from another EU country than from outside the EU - the tax, duty and brokerage charges can add up, especially on a relatively low value consignment. The likes of FedEx like to slap a charge of around 12 pounds on top of any tax and duty just for settling up with Customs.

If someone US based was considering ordering a qty 20 then I'd be happy to pony up for one of the 20 :-)

any interest for these in the UK??

FYI Just received one EMB-5740 from taiwan.
I'm trying to install pfsense(full not embedded) from a usb dvd-drive on a hitachi 4gb microdrive.
With pfsense 1.2 iso for now i cannot get the live cd to boot.I get BTX halted immediately after the line Boot from CD.
I will try the pfsense 1.2.1 today . -
it's very well known FreeBSD boot loader issue while booting from USB cd/dvd drive.
I know there have been some discussions for this issue but just dunno if 1.2.1/1.3 has this fix included.
cheers,

After more trying it actually appears my unit actually boots very irregularly. :-[ . Can't even reach bios most of the time.
I will RMA it. Will keep you posted on liantec's customer support quality. -
Couldn't you temporarily attach a sata cd-rom drive to the MB. Install and then remove?
-
AS said in second message… i think the box is actually defective.. I cannot even reach the BIOS now.
So I WILL test LIANTEC's customer support and keep you posted. -
I understand that. I was talking about the fact that USB CD-ROM drives from what I have read here do not work very well.
-
FYI AS of now I'm very satisfied with Liantec's customer support. Easy to keep in touch with them, I shipped back the unit (at their expense) and am expecting it repaired any time soon (I was provided the shipment number as soon as the shipment was done).
More updates in a few days (time to get from taiwan to tokyo) .EDIT : Received the unit 2 days alter set it up. It's working perfectly. Those Liantec box make great pfsense appliances.
