SG 4860
-
Hi,
I would upgrade my actual router (an old Asus RT N16) and I thought to SG-4860.
I actually have a 100Mbps WAN connection (fiber) and I need 4/6 port LAN port: I also need to use VPN connection (only with WAN connection) without any drop of my 100Mbps WAN throughput.
It's SG 4860 suitable for these needs?
Thanks in advance

How many VPN connections will you have simultaneously and are the IPsec or OpenVPN?
For general throughput please search the forum, this has been discussed several times already.https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=93710.0

The consumer RT-N16 you currently have has a built in bridge/switch. If you are needing 4-6 ports for switching you might be better suited with a SG-2440 or SG-2220 and a switch (Look for a Smart/Managed switch that supports VLAN (802.1Q) if you have a need).

This is plenty:

Buy an external wifi AP if you need wireless.I beat the hell out of an old VK-40TE with my 100Mb internet connection. It keeps up just fine.

For that high VPN throughput, the 4860 would be good, though I wouldn't use the ports as a switch as others have mentioned.
A good case can be made for keeping that RT-N16 around as your AP. I had an RT-N16 running Tomato but it recently died. It was only acting as an access point though. Replaced it by a Ubiquity UAP-LR and a Netgear GS108T, which was still cheaper than an equivalent current model Asus wireless box.
