Hello, i have bought the D-link DWL-2100AP but it is simply an access point.

The pfsense is also a router, so i don't think that a "modem router wifi" is necessary. Yes or No??
Please help it's urgent, I want to bring the AP back, if it's not suitable.

Don't completely understand you. But the DWL-2100AP can work as an AP for pfsense ( got one myself, though i ain't using it as AP atm )

–wan------pfsense------lan------DWL-2100AP

As a last note I have to say that I prefer Linksys over Netgear and Dlink.

If you only need a single accesspoint for your captive portal you could go with an alix or soekris system for example to built your pfSense with wireless gear.

I've not tried replacing the AP firmware with Pfsense because the current setup works just fine. However pfsense can be installed on some embedded systems. Do a search on forum am sure it has be discussed somewhere.

Is it possible to put the pfsense soft in the AP (overwriting existing firmware) ?

It should not do NAT or modify mac adresses. There have been some problems in some alternative firmware versions for the linksys gear but that has been a long time ago. The majority of accesspoints (or in generall almost all) accesspoints will simply work. I usually use the netgear wg102 or wag102 for smaller installations. They work just fine, even with vlans and virtual accesspoints if needed.
