I tried setting up VAPs (for having a/b/g/n) with pfSense 2.2.3 on an alix3d2 with wlm200nx (Atheros) card but could not setup multiple interfaces for the different channels. Any hints on how to do that? Or is that combination know not to allow that at all?

Many thanks!
Hugo

The settings in the common area on wireless cards state that those values are shared between all VAPs.

There is only one radio in the card, but you can run multiple VAPs (SSIDs, etc) on the same radio.
